Getting tanked up in London’s Royal Docks

The King George V dock has been the home for Dutch cargo barge Animo for well over a year now and is presently being used more as a houseboat than a working cargo boat and as a result she hasn’t really done very much – least of all move.

So it was a bit of a treat to see her underway using her own engines yesterday when she moved from her mooring location in the KGV dock to the lock.

The handy thing about using the KGV Lock is that the Marine Team have their own workboat which can be used to help with manoeuvring in the lock.

The reason for this epic voyage was for the installation of a water tank in to her main cargo hold. The easy road access and ample dockside working space at the lock allowed the tank to be brought right alongside the Animo who then used her own cargo crane to lift the tank.

Whilst it wasn’t headline making news it did demonstrate that the KGV lock continues to earn it’s keep whether it be a installing a new water tank or creating Hippo artwork.
