HMS Example arrived in London on 10th June and is one of 16 Archer-class patrol vessels operated by the Royal Navy.
HMS Example, like most of her sisters, is assigned to one of the University Royal Naval Units – in Example’s case this being the Northumbria URNU,
The purpose of the URNUs is to provide students with an insight in to the Royal Navy and help develop leadership capabilities and maritime experience – this is achieved through a combination of shore based training and practical experience gained on training voyages – such as the one that leads to HMS Example being in London.
The Archer-class patrol boats are fairly frequent visitors to the Thames although HMS Example is the first to visit this year and whilst London does have it’s own URNU the assigned vessel (HMS Puncher) is not based on the Thames.
