Many countries around the world still operate a sail training vessel of some description as part of their naval forces – these ships are used as they provide a perfect training platform to teach the core maritime and team-work skills that will be required to serve on modern vessels. In addition they act as roving ambassadors for their countries during overseas port visits. Sadly, Britain’s Royal Navy does not operate such a vessel.
