Having worked in London for many, many, years I was aware that a river ran through it and I had even made occasional visits to Tower Hill to see visiting warships alongside HMS Belfast.
However, it wasn’t until I moved in to my river side flat that I started to fully appreciate just how busy the Thames is with river traffic and that there is a huge variety in the types of vessels that ply their trade along the river.
I am in a fortunate position of being just far enough out to catch some of the cargo traffic that never ventures further up river than Greenwich but also near enough in that some of the tourist boats still come in to my patch.
The following gives an overview of the different categories of vessels that pass along the Thames (click on the link for more photos):
- Bulk Carriers
- Coasters
- Cruise Ships
- Dredgers
- Luxury Yachts
- Military Vessels
